Eight years of walks, rolls and familiar faces in Leichhardt

Some dogs come into our lives for a season. Others become such a regular part of the week that it’s hard to imagine the routine without them.

That’s certainly true of Cirrus and Moose. Between them, they’ve been walking with us for years, which means we’ve had plenty of time to learn their habits, their quirks and exactly what makes a good outing in their eyes.

Our dog walking and doggy daycare in Leichhardt is designed around that kind of familiarity. The longer we spend with a dog, the better we understand how they like to spend their time, who they enjoy being around and the little things that help them get the most out of every walk.

For Cirrus and Moose, regular outings also help break up the working day for their families while giving them time to exercise, socialise and enjoy some company of their own.

Cirrus: eight years of lunchtime adventures

Cirrus is a white standard poodle with a big personality and an even bigger opinion of himself.

As far as Cirrus is concerned, he’s the boss of pretty much everything.

We’ve been taking him out Monday to Friday for the past eight years as part of our group dog walking service, so at this point we know the routine almost as well as he does.

Mum is a full-time artist, and Cirrus heads out with us around lunchtime to break up his day. Five outings a week give him regular exercise, time away from home and the chance to catch up with his doggy mates while Mum gets on with her work.

Cirrus brings plenty of bravado to proceedings. He likes to act as though he’s in charge and has everything completely under control. Underneath all of that, though, he’s a big softy.

One of his favourite things is simply having a good roll around. Give him the right patch of ground and he’ll happily get stuck in, legs in the air, enjoying himself without a care in the world.

After eight years together, these little habits are very familiar to us. That’s one of the nice things about long-term dog walking in Leichhardt. You don’t just learn whether a dog likes walking or playing. You learn their whole routine.

You know who likes to lead, who prefers to hang back, what gets them excited and when they’ve decided it’s time for a roll around instead.

For Cirrus, his weekday walks have become part of normal life. Lunchtime rolls around, he heads out for his adventure and then comes home ready to settle back into the afternoon. Although if you asked him, we suspect he’d tell you the whole operation runs according to his schedule.

Moose: catching up with friends when Mum has a long day

Moose is a nine-year-old poodle who has been walking with us for the past seven years.

Unlike Cirrus and his Monday-to-Friday schedule, Moose joins us on a more flexible basis. Mum books her in for group dog walks whenever she knows she has an extra-long day at work. It’s a routine that works well for both of them.

Mum can head into a busy day knowing Moose will get out of the house for some exercise and company, while Moose gets something she absolutely loves – time with her friends.

She’s a very social girl and genuinely enjoys getting out with other dogs. After seven years, many of those walks have become familiar adventures with familiar faces.

There’s also another important part of Moose’s routine: what happens after the walk.

We always follow Mum’s instructions carefully when it comes to her care once she’s home. Every dog and every household has its own routine, and keeping that consistency matters, particularly when we’re looking after dogs whose families have trusted us for years.

For Moose, that means she can enjoy her outing, spend time with her dog friends and then come home to the routine Mum has set for her.

It’s a simple arrangement, but that’s often exactly what families need. Dog walking in Leichhardt doesn’t always need to be five days a week. Sometimes it’s having someone you trust available on those particularly long workdays when your dog could use some extra company and exercise.

Long-term care means really knowing the dog

We’ve been keeping tails wagging since 2014, and one of the things we value most is getting to know dogs over the long term.

Cirrus and Moose are great examples. We’ve been walking Cirrus for eight years and Moose for seven. That’s a lot of walks, plenty of familiar routines and more than enough time to learn exactly who we’re dealing with. Neither family needs exactly the same thing, and neither dog enjoys their outings in exactly the same way. That’s why getting to know the dog in front of us matters.
